 Praised by highly acclaimed architecs and philosophers and displayed in the world's leading museums, the work of sculptors Eduardo Chillida is among the most significant and symbolic art at our times.
The Zabalaga farmhouse, dating to the 16th century and which contains a hundred of works, was in ruins when it was purchased by Chillida in 1982. It has now beeo restored as if the building its'elf were a sculpture.  The interior was emptied; natural light steams in through a huge ' glass door and oak beams make up the building's framework.
Chillida-Leku is the outcome of a lifelong dream for the artist: to create a space which would be appropriate for his work and where it could be permanentty on display. This museum IS a faithful representation of the artist's sculptural development and progress over a 50-year period. The spacious gardens surrounding the building an old 16th-century farmhouse, have been made into an authentic outdoor museum thanks to the more than 40 carefully-placed sculptures.
These large-scale pieces, made mostly of iron and granite, are set amongst beech trees, oaks and magnolias, creating a magical and unparalle led natural wonderland.
TIMETABLE The museum is closed: Tuesdays. December 25th and January 1st . Opening hours: July and August: 10:3Oam to 7pm. Easter(from Thrusday to Monday): 10:30am to 7pm. Sundays (all the year): 10:3Oam to 3pm. September to June: 10:30am to 3pm. The schedule could be modified. GUIDED TOURS Daily tours open to the general public: Information at museum ticket office. SERVICE Auditorium: Pictures of the artist at work and documentary screenings. Gift shop: Books, videos, posters, engravings stationery, and gifts Audio guides: Audio tour around the museum in Spanish, Basque, French, English and German. Duration 45 minute. Library: Specializing in the artwork of Eduardo Chilllda, the focus of this library is for research and study. By appointment Educational area: Activities adapted to all the cycles.
